A New Legacy were engaged to define the biophilic vision for Accor as a hotel group, as well as applying individual principles to each of the Accor luxury and premium brands.

Overview
First, we defined what biophilic design means to Accor.
This began through research into each brand and it’s sustainability and design principles, as well as interviews with Accor employees.
From this base we created a set of overarching design pillars, which all linked to the senses and formed a foundation for implementing biophilic design. These design pillars then resulted in our list of desired well-being benefits.

The next step was defining the vision for the Accor biophilic experience.
A human centred strategy which focused on the connection between spaces and nature, considering both staff and guests.

The vision also linked back to the Accor internal manifesto, making sure everything was singing from the same songbook.

Brand Specific Principles
Finally, we took a deep dive into each of the Accor brands, creating customer experience and interior design principles which looked at both the guest and staff experience for each brand.
These looked at all the main hotel spaces from lobby to guest room, and considered materiality, water, lighting, visual & non-visual connection to nature and thermal dynamics.
